Roadwork in Rorotan Part of KBT Parallel Road Project

Jakarta Bina Marga Agency has provided clarification regarding a social media post highlighting an abandoned road in Rorotan, Cilincing, North Jakarta, which has drawn public attention.

"The Jakarta Provincial Government hopes the project runs smoothly ,"

The road, which appears disconnected and damaged, was suspected to be a long-abandoned project, worsening the slum conditions around the East Flood Canal (KBT) due to stacked containers and stalls.

Responding to this, Jakarta Bina Marga Agency Head Heru Suwondo clarified that the road in question is not abandoned but rather part of the KBT Parallel Road project, which is being developed in stages. The road spans approximately 18 kilometers, from Jalan Pondok Kopi Raya to Jalan Marunda Makmur.

He explained that the road is divided into two main segments: 7-kilometer road segment from Jalan Pondok Kopi Raya to Jalan Bekasi Raya (Jalan Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono IX) and 11-kilometer road segment from Jalan Bekasi Raya to Jalan Marunda Makmur.

As for progress, Heru stated that out of the 7-kilometer segment from Pondok Kopi Raya to Jalan Bekasi Raya, around 2 kilometers have been completed, while the remaining 5 kilometers are still in the planning stage.

For the 11-kilometer segment from Jalan Bekasi Raya to Jalan Marunda Makmur, 5.5 kilometers have been completed, with the other half pending construction.

Heru emphasized that the Jakarta Provincial Government is currently carrying out physical construction in the form of concrete road paving along the East Flood Canal (BKT) parallel road.

"The work is ongoing in Ujung Menteng Urban Village, from Jalan Bekasi Raya to Rusunawa Ujung Menteng. This development is crucial to connect Nusantara Bonded Zone (KBN) with Pulogadung industrial area," he said on Thursday (9/11).

He added that for other areas yet to undergo development, the city is finalizing the Location Determination (Penlok) process. This is based on Jakarta Governor Decree No. 866/2023 on the Location Determination for Road Access to Rawa Bebek Rusun in Ujung Menteng and Pulo Gebang, Cakung Sub-district, East Jakarta, as well as Decree No. 474/2024 on the Location Determination for the Parallel Road Construction Along the East Flood Canal in Ujung Menteng, Cakung.

Heru also noted that road development from Rorotan to Marunda is still in the planning stage due to the presence of several National Strategic Projects in the area. These need to be aligned to ensure the road construction proceeds according to plan.

"The Jakarta Provincial Government hopes the project runs smoothly so the road can be utilized soon. It is expected to reduce traffic congestion, support economic activity, and offer a practical alternative route for residents," he noted.
